June 14, Panchkula to Zirakpur
Anuj is 24, from Karnal district. On the evening of June 14 he was at a club in Panchkula with three friends — Gaurav, Bhuwan, and Sachin. When they left, Gaurav and Bhuwan drove to a nearby petrol pump to refuel. Anuj and Sachin waited outside.
A Maruti Brezza pulled up. Five men got out and parked in front of them, hurling abuses. Anuj objected. An argument broke out. The four friends regrouped and decided to leave for Zirakpur.
The Brezza followed them.
Near VIP road in Zirakpur, Anuj and Sachin briefly stepped out to drop off an acquaintance. The Brezza pulled up again and blocked the Scorpio. Five men got out, this time carrying iron rods and sharp-edged weapons. They smashed the front windshield. They broke the driver's side window. They dragged Anuj out of the vehicle, struck him on the head, and assaulted him repeatedly. Three more windows were destroyed during the attack.
People started gathering. Anuj managed to get away. The FIR states the assailants took five mobile phones, Rs 1.16 lakh in cash, and several identity documents from inside the Scorpio before fleeing.
His friends drove him to Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi. Doctors referred him to Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh.
Ten Days Later
Anuj could not file a report immediately. He was being treated for his injuries. The FIR was finally registered at Zirakpur police station on June 20 — six days after the attack. Sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita cover voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, theft, mischief, and group liability.
As of June 24, no arrests have been made. Investigating officer Dharam Raj told Hindustan Times that the accused have not yet been identified and the case is under investigation.
Ten days since the attack. Four days since the FIR. Nobody in custody.
The Number in the FIR
The Brezza that carried the five assailants has a Punjab registration number. According to Hindustan Times reporting on June 24, the number recorded in the FIR is PB-36-K-1422.
A vehicle registration is a direct investigative thread. It identifies an owner. The owner either drove the car or knows who did. In a case involving a premeditated chase and coordinated armed assault, a traceable vehicle registration is not a cold lead. It is a starting point.
Ten days in, the accused have not been identified. The investigating officer's statement, that they are investigating the case, does not explain why the vehicle registration has not produced a lead that could be acted on.

Zirakpur में VIP रोड के पास, Anuj और Sachin एक परिचित को छोड़ने के लिए थोड़ी देर के लिए बाहर निकले। Brezza फिर से आकर रुकी और Scorpio को रास्ता रोक दिया। पाँच लोग उतरे, इस बार उनके पास लोहे की रॉड और धारदार हथियार थे। उन्होंने आगे की विंडशील्ड तोड़ दी। ड्राइवर साइड की खिड़की भी तोड़ दी। उन्होंने Anuj को गाड़ी से बाहर घसीटा, सिर पर वार किया और बार-बार पीटा। हमले के दौरान तीन और खिड़कियाँ भी तोड़ दी गईं।
लोग जमा होने लगे। Anuj किसी तरह भाग निकला। FIR में बताया गया है कि हमलावर Scorpio से पाँच मोबाइल फोन, ₹1.16 लाख नकद और कई पहचान पत्र लेकर फरार हो गए।
उसके दोस्त उसे Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi ले गए। डॉक्टरों ने उसे Sector 32, Chandigarh स्थित Government Medical College and Hospital रेफर कर दिया।
Ten Days Later (दस दिन बाद)
Anuj तुरंत रिपोर्ट दर्ज नहीं करा पाया। वह अपनी चोटों का इलाज करवा रहा था। FIR अंततः 20 जून को Zirakpur पुलिस स्टेशन में दर्ज हुई — हमले के छह दिन बाद। Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita के तहत धाराओं में स्वेच्छा से चोट पहुँचाना, गलत तरीके से रोकना, आपराधिक धमकी, चोरी, नुकसान पहुँचाना और सामूहिक जिम्मेदारी शामिल हैं।
24 जून तक कोई गिरफ़्तारी नहीं हुई है। जाँच अधिकारी Dharam Raj ने Hindustan Times को बताया कि आरोपियों की अभी तक पहचान नहीं हो पाई है और मामले की जाँच जारी है।
