The Shivalik foothills just beyond New Chandigarh will host the Mata Jayanti Hills Marathon 2026 on Sunday, 25 October 2026. The run is organised by Chandigarh Distance Runners (CDR), a Tricity running club founded in 2016, and 2026 will be its fourth season.

Where the run takes place

Previous editions started and finished at Shiv Mandir, Jayanti Majri, below the hilltop Mata Jayanti Devi Temple. Jayanti Majri is in SAS Nagar (Mohali) district, about 8 km beyond PGI along the PGI to Mullanpur road, on the northern edge of New Chandigarh.

The organisers describe the route as hill roads and village trails through the Jayanti Devi hills, well away from city traffic. For many Tricity residents it is a rare chance to see the Shivalik belt that forms the backdrop to New Chandigarh at close quarters.

Getting there on race morning

- From Chandigarh: via PGI, then the PGI to Mullanpur road towards Jayanti Majri.
- From Mohali: cross to Mullanpur (New Chandigarh), then continue towards Jayanti Majri.
- From Panchkula: via Madhya Marg to PGI, then the same route.

The CTU route 70 bus to Jayanti Majri does not run early enough for a dawn start, so car-pooling is the practical option.

The temple behind the name

The Mata Jayanti Devi Temple stands on a hillock above the village. Local legend dates it to around 550 years ago, when a Kangra princess devoted to Jayanti Devi married into the Hathnaur estate and the goddess's idol travelled with her. About 100 steps lead up to the shrine.

Why it matters for the New Chandigarh belt

Organised events like this bring Tricity residents into the Mullanpur and Shivalik fringe and build familiarity with its road links and landscape. The area's northern boundary is defined as much by the hills as by the planned sectors.
